Gastroenteritis covers a pathology that determines the inflammation of digestive tract, frequently in adults and children. The causes for this pathology can be non-infectious (intoxication with exogen toxins, autoimmune diseases, digestive tumors, drugs) or infectious (bacteria, viruses, parasites). The pharmacotherapy of gastroenteritis aims at correcting the dehydration by administering oral or parenteral rehydration salts, at counteracting the acute symptoms by administering antidiarrhoea and/or antivomiting drugs (when it is non-infectious), at restoring the balance of intestinal flora and at eradicating the pathogen agent by administering antibiotics and antimicrobial chemotherapics (when it is infectious).
