A new scientific and educational event under the auspices of two prestigious international societies: MASCC and ESMO, organized by the National Society for Medical Oncology in Romania (SNOMR) and Institute of Oncology Bucharest

This new event aims to debate scientific research with practical application problem. We want this event to relaunch research in Oncology Institute of Bucharest and create conditions for a wider collaboration with other institutions in the country and abroad.

This new event aims to debate scientific research with practical application problem. We want this event to relaunch research in Oncology Institute of Bucharest and create conditions for a wider collaboration with other institutions in the country and abroad.

Also we want to rally ESMO recommendations to promote original research and its implementation as quickly in clinical practice. SNOMR (the only society in Romania similar to ESMO) continues as educational activity began more than 10 years ago. In the end of this presentation, I want to enumerate medical personalities who agreed to contribute to this event:

Prof. Irma M. Verdonck-de Leeuw, PhD

  • Psychologist, Speech & Language Therapist, Linguist

  • Irma Verdonck-de Leeuw (1963) graduated as psychologist, speech pathologist, and linguist. She is professor at the Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery of VU University Medical Center (VUmc)/ Cancer Center Amsterdam, and at the Department of Clinical Psychology of VU University in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She holds the chair “Living with Cancer: innovative care programs and e-health” established by the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF)/ Alpe d’HuZes Foundation. She is chair of the interinstitutional research program “Quality of life in Cancer and Immunology” of VUmc Research Institutes: CCA/V-ICI and EMGO+

Professor David Kerr, CBE, MA MD DSc FRCP (Glas & Lon) FRCGP (Hon) FMedSci (born 1956, Glasgow) is a British cancer researcher. His primary area of research is treatment and management of colorectal cancer.

He has recently resigned as the Chief Research Advisor, Sidra Medical and Research Center in Doha, Qatar. Kerr is no longer Director at Qatar Biomedical Research Institute. His role as a Member of Supreme Council of Health, Qatar, has been allocated to Lord Darzi. Kerr is Professor of Cancer Medicine and former Fellow of Corpus Christi College, University of Oxford. He is also Past President for European Society for Medical Oncology. Kerr’s clinical research into adjuvant therapy of early stage colorectal cancer has contributed to saving thousands of lives over the past two decades.
