Clinical cases
This edition of our journal opens with the obstetric section, highlighting the importance of careful preprocedural assessment and individualized management in order to minimize risks and optimize outcomes in women undergoing elective termination of pregnancy.
The next paper brings to the front the case of a 28-year-old woman with a history of a previous caesarean section who presented in early pregnancy and was diagnosed with a caesarean scar ectopic pregnancy exhibiting endogenous growth, a rare but potentially life-threatening form of ectopic pregnancy.
Cervical cancer ranks fourth among global women’s malignancies. Tertiary unit hospitals across our country receive many female patients in advanced stages who require a multidisciplinary approach. The following paper presents cases of advanced cervical carcinoma diagnosed and managed in the departments of pathology and gynecology of the University Emergency Hospital Bucharest, Romania, between 2021 and 2026.
Moving on, the next report highlights the need for heightened awareness among clinicians for prompt diagnosis and comprehensive treatment strategies in vaginal agglutination, a condition typically resulting from hypoestrogenism in postmenopausal women, leading to adhesion and fusion of the vaginal walls.
Genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM) is a chronic condition associated with estrogen deficiency, resulting in vaginal dryness, burning, dyspareunia and impaired sexual function due to progressive mucosal atrophy and connective tissue degeneration. As emphasized by a prospective pilot study, energy-based vaginal laser therapies have demonstrated tissue-level regenerative effects through controlled thermal stimulation and activation of wound-healing pathways.
The neonatology section reminds us about the importance of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), one of the most severe gastrointestinal emergencies in the neonatal period, particularly afflicting preterm infants and significantly contributing to neonatal morbidity and mortality.
As pregnancy is associated with profound physiological, hormonal and behavioral changes, that can significantly influence oral health, the following narrative review critically synthesizes peer-reviewed observational studies, randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews and clinical guidelines to examine oral health during pregnancy.
