Ginecologia.ro – Milestone 50
As the birth rate in Romania has significantly decreased in recent years, a bigger focus is now on pregnant women at risk of premature birth with their newborns requiring special monitoring and special care in maternity wards and tertiary-unit hospitals, with multidisciplinary teams. The number of those specialized centers does not fully cover the Romania’s territory, and case management represents a constant challenge for the medical system.
The next paper brings to the front a case report about pheochromocytoma in pregnancy, a rare catecholamine secreting tumor arising from adrenal medullary chromaffin cells. Early recognition and management are imperative to improve maternal and fetal outcomes.
Monochorionic diamniotic twin pregnancies represent a rare event associated with an extremely rare complication of the spontaneous rupture of the dividing membrane between the amniotic sacs. Once this rupture appears, the pregnancy becomes functionally a monoamniotic pregnancy, with a high risk of developing umbilical cord entanglement (up to 50%) and a supplementary rise in the perinatal mortality (up to 70%).
Moving on to the gynecology section, the next paper is a review that summarizes current evidence on post-vaccination immune responses in the general population, comparing individuals with and without prior HPV infection. Studies show that HPV-naive individuals achieve high seroconversion rates and antibody titers exceeding those from natural infection, with immunity lasting over a decade.
In assisted reproductive technology (ART), optimizing gonadotropin usage is critical for both clinical efficacy and cost-efficiency. The Gonadotropin Efficiency Index (GEI), defined as the total gonadotropin dose per grade A embryo (IU/G1), offers a novel metric to quantify stimulation efficiency, the aim of the paper being to identify patient and stimulation-related parameters that significantly predict gonadotropin efficiency using a multivariate regression model.
As acute pelvic pain is a frequent clinical emergency, the study presented in the following paper analyzes the role of ultrasound in the differential diagnosis of acute pelvic pain, emphasizing its accuracy, limitations and integration with complementary imaging methods.
The goal of the nest paper is to compare embryo profile parameters and gonadotropin efficiency – including a novel metric, gonadotropin units per Grade A embryo – between matched cohorts receiving rFSH or hMG in assisted reproductive technology cycles.
Enhanced recovery pathways have demonstrated significant benefits in gynecologic minimally invasive surgery. The study in our paper evaluates the feasibility, safety and clinical outcomes of a structured enhanced recovery pathway for total laparoscopic hysterectomy performed by a single freelancing gynecologic surgeon.
Last but not least, we are proud to announce that this edition marks the 50th number of our medical publication – a milestone in our commitment to advancing healthcare knowledge.
Whatever your traditions and however you are celebrating, we wish you all Happy Holidays and all the best in the year to come!
