We begin the 48th edition of our journal with a paper emphasizing the importance of personalized digital care in obstetrics, by bringing to the fore the case of a pregnant patient with a history of severe preeclampsia and FGR in a previous pregnancy, requiring preterm delivery at 27 weeks. Early identification of high-risk factors and timely intervention remain essential to improve outcomes in cases like this.
Moving on, Von Willebrand disease (VWD), defined by a quantitative or qualitative deficit of the Von Willebrand factor (VWF), increases the chance of postpartum hemorrhage and its associated complications, from transfusion support and multiorgan injury to tissue hypoperfusion in pregnant patients. Thus, for the thorough care of females with this illness throughout the perinatal period, the cooperative efforts of a multidisciplinary team, comprising obstetricians, hematologists and other medical specialists, are essential.
Thrombophilia in pregnancy refers to a condition where a woman has an increased tendency to form abnormal blood clots. Women with thrombophilic defects have been shown to be at an increased risk not only of pregnancy-associated thromboembolism, but also of other vascular complications of pregnancy, including preeclampsia and fetal loss.
The next paper presents myomectomy performed during caesarean section as a subject of controversy due to the potential for associated complications, particularly with large myomas, concluding that current guidelines encourage performing myomectomy during caesarean section in carefully selected cases, when conducted by experienced surgeons under appropriate conditions.
The gynecology section begins with a randomized controlled study that examines the effectiveness of biofeedback-assisted pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) and hypopressive exercises (HE) in women with pelvic organ prolapse (POP).
In the following, it is brought under our attention the uterine torsion, a rare and difficult condition that is most commonly encountered in pregnant women, but it can also affect non-pregnant patients, by reporting the interesting case of uterine torsion accompanied by bilateral ovarian torsion, associated with a large pedunculated subserosal fibroid, in a non-gravid patient who had previously undergone caesarean section following an in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedure.
Our midwives and nurses’ section includes a study on starch-rich foods and fast food consumption patterns, showing the impact of dietary habits on HbA1C levels.
Last but not least, it is our great pleasure to invite you to The 6th National Congress of the Eastern European Endometriosis and Infertility Society & The 10th National Conference of the Romanian HPV Society, which will be held between 26 and 28 June 2025, in Eforie Nord, Romania.
